SATURDAY 8TH MARCH // D ZEBO’S WHEEZY CLUB

Brand new to the scene,Dr  Zebo’s Wheezy Club are making their first ever live appearance here at The Griffin in March.

This lively trio – featuring guitar, fiddle and double bass – play a mix of rootsy swing-jazz with an Irish folk twist. Think Hot Club of Cowtown meets country and you’ve got some quality, foot tapping stuff!

Music starts at 9pm and is free entry!

 

SATURDAY 15TH MARCH // CLEY HILL STOMPERS

Originally formed to “bring Skiffle to the musically illiterate masses of Chapmanslade”, Cley Hill Stompers are now rocking the local music & festival scene with their larger than life performances.

With a current set that covers Rock ‘n Roll classics such as Long Tall Sally and Johnny B Goode, these foot stomping tunes are complemented by their own, unique take on Rockabilly and 70s and 80s Rock.

TUESDAY 18TH MARCH // GRIFFINDOR GAMES NIGHT

Bring a team of pals or come alone and join in with a whole selection of games including Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Taboo, Blockers, Articulate, Pictionary and more…

THURSDAY 20TH MARCH // CROFTON, SMITH, BROWN AND MOORE – JAZZ NIGHT

Join us for a night of seriously soulful jazz with Crofton, Smith, Brown and Moore.

Anglo-American Craig is a protege of Marcus Printemp [Blue Note Records] and has played with Jazz greats including John Fattis, Pee Wee Ellis, and most recently Wynton Marselis, Nitin Sawhney and members of the Lincoln Center Band [Colston Hall, Bristol 2003]. Craig is known as a superb session player and performer from New York to Bristol.

A highly respected and versatile sax player, writer and producer, his own
Jazz quintet plays an exciting mix of groove based Jazz and Funk, and can
be seen at clubs all over the UK.

He is joined by organ player Dan Moore, who amongst other great bands, plays with Andy Sheppard and Pee Wee Ellis. Drummer, Matt Brown, plays with Phantom Limb and the guitarist, Neil Smith, plays with the likes of Adrian Utley [Portishead guitarist] and This is The Kit.

Join us from 8.30 for a night of great music and great atmosphere, with the greatest of beers.

SATURDAY 22ND MARCH // HOWLIN’ LORD

Country loving rock’n’rollers, Howlin’ Lord, hail from Bristol UK and combine down home  bar-room rock’n’roll with from the heart, well crafted songwriting..

The band revolves around songwriter, guitar slinger and lead singer Mark Legassick who has taken the band from a one man guitar-drums-harmonica combo through multiple personal changes to the current lineup including Mandrake Fantastico on keys and banjo, drummer Dan Clibery and Jim Evans on bass.

TOBY SPIN NYE PARTY – Tuesday 31st December

It’s all about YOU this New Year’s Eve, and the tunes you want to hear.

This year legendary DJ, Toby Spin will be taking requests for the night, giving the pub’s regulars the chance to choose the tunage! As well as being able to place requests at the bar throughout December, there’ll be a full size jukebox on the night, allowing you to get your tune in the queue for some serious midnight dancing.

GRIFFIN CHRISTMAS TRIO OF DELIGHTS – 24th, 25th & 26th December

On Christmas Eve, Frome’s local legend, Toby Spin, will be playing the pub into the early hours, welcoming home friends, family and treating everyone to an eclectic mix of dancing tunes. Santa may well be dropping in, during his rounds…

The Griffin are open on Christmas Day between 12pm – 2pm, offering a warm welcome and glass of bubbly to everyone who joins them before heading home to feast.

And fear not, those disappointed with their presents this year, as there’ll be an ‘Unwanted Gift Swap-Shop’ at the pub on Boxing Day between 2pm and 6pm. Bring your disappointing pressies and see if your loss can be someone else’s gain, and vice versa. Families all welcome and encouraged to stay into the evening as the monthly Celtic night will kick off at 8pm. Bring your instrument or just have a listen as you get transported to a remote pub in the Irish countryside with the Griffin troops’ energetic folk!
